Tough field for hill climb

Two 2018-19 Motorsport New Zealand Hillclimb Championship podium place-getters will be competing in the Bob Scott Memorial Kaitangata Hill Climb next Saturday.

Murray Marshall, of Kaitangata, will be behind the wheel of his two-litre 1996 Subaru WRX turbo that finished third overall in the six-event national series. It was the first time Marshall had completed the whole series, which comprised three gravel and three sealed hill climbs.

Clutha Valley-based Scott Gouman will compete in the 2WD Class B (1301cc-1600cc) in his Toyota Corolla DX that he drove to third overall in the 2WD class of the national series.

Bob Scott was a former Kaitangata mayor and won three South Island grass track titles and the Kaitangata Hill Climb in 1967.

He also owned Scott’s Garage in the South Otago town during the 1960s and 1970s. Three of Scott’s single seater cars will be running in the hill climb.
