King's High School (KHS) has come up with a novel way to fundraise for its football team’s international travel and will hold a Garage Raid, muscle car tour next Saturday.
When casting around for ideas on how to drum up $7000 for each of the 25 year 11-13 pupils heading to Spain and England to play football in April next year, a friend of the school suggested putting their pride and joys on display.
‘‘The boys were wowed by the opportunity to be able to plan a fundraiser around cars, describing them as ‘awesome’ and ‘impressive’. They are very grateful to the car owners who, by showcasing their vehicles, are adding to the more than $60,000 raised to date,’’ KHS fundraising convener Rachel Heller said.
‘‘For the football-mad boys, it is the trip of a lifetime to play and see football in stadiums and countries that they have only dreamt of. To say they are excited is an understatement,’’ Heller added.
Those attending the Garage Raid will meet at 12.30pm at the Stateside Streeters club rooms on Carnforth St in Green Island and the $30 cost covers bus transport to the four garages where up to seven vehicles will be on display in each venue. They will include motorbikes and trucks and some cars that have not been seen in Dunedin before. Food will be available.
KHS would appreciate registrations by Wednesday and once the bus is full, there will be an option to self-drive.
