Kurow is hosting the Off Road Association of New Zealand’s third South Island round this weekend and the event host promises some ‘‘very loud’’ buggies and trucks sailing over ‘‘huge big jumps’’.
Today’s short-course programme will provide the best spectating opportunities at the Otiake Rd venue, which will be signposted from SH83, Otago Off Road Racing Club president Barry Philllips said.
There are 45 entries spread across the seven classes ranging from single-seater buggies to the monstrously-powerful thunder trucks belting out up to 600hp on the dirt tracks, Phillips said.
‘‘We’ve got guys coming from Auckland and all over the country. We’ve got a big field of Class 1 unlimited buggies, which are very loud,’’ Phillips said.
Tomorrow’s programme features a 250km endurance race around the farm venue.
Racing starts at 11am both days and entry at the gate is by gold coin donation.
