Aston Martin’s hypercar, developed with Red Bull, was given wings for its first public demonstration last weekend when it took to England’s Silverstone circuit ahead of the 2019 British Grand Prix.
Named after a female figure in Norse mythology responsible for choosing who dies and who lives in battle, the Valkyrie certainly has otherworldly power with 1160bhp on tap. Billed as the world’s most extreme road car and built as
a platform for a future FIA World Endurance Championship challenger, this Aston Martin is the result of technical and strategic collaboration between Aston Martin, Red Bull Advanced Technologies and project partner AF Racing.
The mid-engined hypercar appeared in a livery similar to those Red Bull had on its 2019 Formula 1 car for its shakedown at Silverstone earlier this year.
‘‘To finally see the Aston Martin Valkyrie running, five years from when I first sat down and started sketching what this car could look like, is quite an emotional day,’’ Aston Martin Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey
said. ‘‘With the change in vision angle as it comes past and the noise, it is now doing what it is supposed to be doing, which is to move and be dynamic.’’
If you fancy one, you’re out of luck — all 150 of the road-going Valkyries have been sold, with first deliveries starting in October.
