Car club seeking temporary grounds

Members of the Ashburton Car Club are seeking space they can use for club events over the next few months while their home grounds recover from flood waters.

The club house and grounds are on Wakelins Road, just off the Methven highway, which backs on to the Ashburton River north branch.

Because of the flooding the club’s back paddock and access road had been ‘‘rearranged’’.

Club president Daniel Tew said anyone with a paddock or two, or a private road or tarsealed car park that club members could use to hold controlled events over the coming months would be appreciated.

The club usually holds one controlled car club event a month during the winter period.

They had very strict rules and regulations and had Health and Safety permits, and public liability coverage, he said.

He said the club grounds was limited to smaller events but any size space, big or small would be valuable.

Members could use rally tyres (with more grip and helpful for tearing up soil) or radial road tyres (more gentle on the soil).

One-off locations would also be helpful, he said.

The Ashburton Car Club runs controlled car events which can be found on their Facebook page or website www.ashburtoncarclub.org.nz

Anyone able to help can contact the club via the page.

The grounds would need to be dried out before they could be redrilled and regrassed, Mr Tew said.
