Arron Black has been competing against some illustrious circuit racers in the three-round Historic Touring Car Series (HTC) and measured up fairly well.
Sharing the grid with former Bathurst winners Steven Richards and Greg Murphy, as well as former World Touring Car Cup winner Paul Radisich, was an ideal way to gauge where he stood as a driver.
‘‘You don’t know where you are at. If I can run close to them I’m not far away,’’ Black, who holds South Island karting and national endurance racing titles, said.
He raced against Richards and Radisich in the first round at Hampton Downs in January and Murphy in the Christchurch round earlier this month.
Although he admitted Richards ‘‘wasted him’’, Murphy was only marginally quicker. All three experienced racers gave him some constructive feedback, which he appreciated.
In the absence of the trio at last weekend’s final round at Teretonga Park, Invercargill, Black claimed two wins and two seconds.
Although there was no overall winner for the series, Black added up the points and discovered he ‘‘would’ve won it.’’
