Steve Ross' new outright lap record at the Hampton Downs circuit, south of Auckland stood for only a week but the Dunedin racer still leads the F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series with two rounds remaining.

Young English star Michael Lyons (Lola T400) completed another clean sweep of three races last weekend, after claiming four from four the previous weekend.

Although he is not in title contention after missing the first two rounds, Lyons was in a class of his own again, setting the new outright track lap record, at 59.840sec, on the final lap of the second race, bettering Ross' 1.00.497.

Driving his McRae GM1, Ross managed to chase Lyons home to finish 2-3-2, despite a tangle with Jay Esterer in the second race.

While Ross escaped relatively unscathed, when Esterer ran into the back of him as the pair braked for the infield hairpin, the Canadian brought the safety car out after ending up with his car prone in the gravel trap.

Racing resumes at Ruapuna Park, Christchurch, this weekend.

In other racing, Scott Columb of Queenstown, finished third overall in the MX2 class at the 51st annual Woodville Motocross event last weekend.

Although he was not "overly happy" with the result there were positives that came out of the different racing style, he said.

It was the first time he had raced on a motocross track since 2009 and the heavily rutted, high-speed course took some getting used to.

"For the practice and first two races I felt really uncomfortable," Columb said.

He made some gearing changes to his Suzuki machine and finished fifth - the first 250cc bike home - in the open nine-lap feature race and then second back in his final MX2 race.

Columb said although he started fifth, he managed to almost chase down the leader and his fastest lap time was 1.5sec faster than any other rider.

Two weeks out from the first round of the national motocross championships, which begin near Timaru on February 12, he felt his confidence was back up to the level it needed to be, he said.

Columb recently won the national supercross championship's MX2 class.
