Toyota New Zealand has confirmed about 60 Avensis cars in the country are part of a global recall over faulty accelerators.
After-sales general manager Paul Carroll said he expected to get individual car details this week and would contact owners as soon as the information arrived.
Toyota has recalled around 8 million vehicles worldwide due to possible sudden acceleration caused by condensation that builds up in the accelerator assembly. Mr Carroll has sought to reassure local Avensis owners.
"It should be emphasised ... that the chances of this happening are very small. There has only been 26 cases in the whole of Europe, and of those cases there were no accidents, so it's not a big thing that they should be concerned about."
It was not known when individual parts would be available for replacement.
Mr Carroll said it will be worked out with the affected owners.
