Dust, mud, and a good ride were on offer at the 14th annual Clinton-Kaiwera Trail Ride near Clinton on Saturday.
Organiser Geoff Dodd said about 400 riders enjoyed an excellent day, with good weather. Entries were down this year by about 100, due to other events over the same weekend.
Other than ‘‘a few'' broken wrists and sore ribs for some riders, there were no major injuries he said.
The event is an annual fund-raiser for the Clinton Primary School and this year encompassed nine properties.
Two trails, each of about 40km, were suitable for intermediate riders and with some additional marked areas for advanced riders.
For junior to experienced riders and ATVs there was a 15km trail, which included several bogs, and steep terrain, while a ‘‘pee-wee'' trail kept younger riders occupied.
The ride has been held for many years, initially as a fund-raiser for Kaiwera School, until that school closed in 2008.
Mr Dodd said it regularly attracted between 500 and 600 riders, and usually raised between $10,000 and $12,000 for the school.
