Eddie Bell has wasted no time stamping his mark on the national V8 motor racing championship series.

The Christchurch driver dominated the opening round of the series at Pukekohe this weekend.

Although he is in only his second season in the high profile racing category, Bell qualified on the front row of the grid for the opening race then scored a win and a second placing in the first two 12-lap races.

He then moved through the order to finished sixth in the 22-lap reverse grid finale yesterday after starting near the rear of the grid.

Second overall was Nelson's John McIntyre, also driving a Ford Falcon, who scored a win and a ninth placing followed by a second placing in the reverse grid race.

Aucklander Andy Booth, in a Holden Commodore, claimed the final spot on the podium with second and third placings and 10th place in the finale.

Bell was as surprised as anyone with his prominence at Pukekohe.

"It hasn't quite sunk in yet especially with the next round being at my home track in Canterbury (on November 28-29)," he said.

"The team has been fantastic in sticking with me and allowing me to concentrate on the races together with handing me a really competitive car."
